ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) ? In a game full of significant plays and misplays, it came down to the Los Angeles Angels' most effective reliever against the Texas Rangers' most dangerous hitter.

This time, Ernesto Frieri got the better of Josh Hamilton.

C.J. Wilson pitched six scoreless innings against his former teammates, Alberto Callaspo singled home the go-ahead run in the seventh and the surging Angels held off Texas 3-2 Saturday night to pull within 3? games of the AL West-leading Rangers.

Bobby Cassevah (1-0) got two outs for the victory, Los Angeles' 10th in 11 games. Frieri, the fifth Angels pitcher, worked 1 1-3 innings for his fourth save in four chances after the Rangers scored an unearned run in the eighth against Scott Downs.

Frieri ended it by striking out Hamilton with the bases loaded after an 11-pitch walk to Ian Kinsler and a throwing error by Gold Glove shortstop Erick Aybar on a routine grounder by Elvis Andrus kept the inning alive.

"That was awesome. I can't believe that I struck him out," Frieri said. "He's a good fastball hitter, but I made a really good pitch to him, a fastball up in the zone. I wasn't trying to strike him out ? just get out of that tough inning. They have so many good hitters in that lineup. That was an amazing at-bat by Kinsler."

The Rangers have lost four straight for the first time since a five-game stretch last June, which was their longest skid of 2011. Manager Ron Washington held a closed-door meeting after the game to air out his concerns.

"You'll see tomorrow if I made a difference," Washington said. "So much happened out there that was totally uncharacteristic of what we are, and it just opened up opportunities for the Angels to get some runs on the board. Yu Darvish did a heck of a job out there tonight, and we didn't support him because we didn't make the plays. It was a very ugly performance."

Aybar, robbed of a home run by center fielder Craig Gentry in the third, led off the Angels' two-run seventh with a bunt single and stole second with one out. Andrus fielded Mike Trout's grounder to shortstop with Aybar cutting in front of him and immediately started motioning to the umpires that the ball grazed Aybar ? instead of making the throw to first.

The speedy Trout was credited with a hit, and Washington came out for a brief discussion with second base ump Ted Barrett and third base partner Marvin Hudson before play resumed. Callaspo then lined a single to right over a drawn-in infield to regain the lead for the Angels.

Darvish (7-3) walked Albert Pujols, and Kendrys Morales followed with a sacrifice fly against Koji Uehara. Right fielder Nelson Cruz's throw home was on target, and Yorvit Torrealba tagged Trout as he slid in. But umpire Tim McClelland called him safe and Torrealba was ejected after throwing a tantrum.

Washington joined the argument, and Torrealba resumed his position behind the plate ? not realizing that he had been tossed. Once he finally got the message, he threw another tantrum before heading to the dugout.

"I thought he was definitely out. I thought the throw beat him and I know I tagged him," Torrealba said. "I was trying to block the plate, but I don't think he was in the right position to tell if he was out or safe. Obviously it happened so fast. I'm an emotional player, and I went off.

"I didn't really say anything bad, but I got tossed because I threw my mask down. That's what he said. I was frustrated because he missed the call. I went back behind the plate because I knew I didn't say anything bad to him. I was like: 'No way! No way! You missed the call!' I didn't know I was ejected until I threw the ball to Elvis and (McClelland) said: 'You've got to go.' Then Ron told me: 'Yeah, you have to go.'"

Darvish was charged with three runs ? two earned ? and five hits over 6 1-3 innings. He struck out seven, walked three and escaped a bases-loaded jam in the fourth.

"He's got great stuff," Trout said. "He's got a bunch of pitches, so you can't just sit on one. It was definitely better this time because we already saw him in Texas. He was battling just like we were. You just try not to miss your pitch."

Pujols led off the sixth with a popup that first baseman Mike Napoli misjudged with the wind blowing out toward right field, and it fell behind him for a two-base error as Pujols slid under the tag of second baseman Kinsler.

"I just screwed it up, basically," Napoli said. "I kind of drifted back, rather than running to a spot, and I turned around too early."

Pujols stole third as Morales struck out, then scored the game's first run when three-time Gold Glove third baseman Adrian Beltre fielded Mark Trumbo's grounder, thought about throwing home and dropped the ball before recovering too late to get the runner at first. Trumbo was credited with an RBI.

The Rangers tied it in the seventh after loading the bases with none out against Jordan Walden. Michael Young was erased at the plate on a fielder's choice grounder to third baseman Callaspo, who nearly threw the ball away and was bailed out by Bobby Wilson's diving grab with one foot on the plate. Cassevah relieved Walden and gave up pinch-hitter David Murphy's sacrifice fly.

C.J. Wilson threw 104 pitches, allowing five hits and striking out five ? including Beltre his first three times up. The left-hander, who signed a five-year, $77.5 million contract with the Angels in December after helping pitch the Rangers to consecutive AL pennants, has allowed one run in 20 innings over his last three starts.

After grounding into three double plays for the first time this season during Friday night's 4-2 loss, the Rangers matched that total in the first three innings. Torrealba's double play ended the second after a double by Cruz and a walk to Napoli. The Angels executed another double play in the fourth when Cruz struck out and Bobby Wilson threw out Young trying to steal second.

Gentry, who has shared center-field duties with Hamilton, timed his leap perfectly on Aybar's towering fly to left-center and reached over the 8-foot fence to grab it.

NOTES: The Rangers' pitching staff has given up 30 unearned runs, tying San Francisco for the most in the majors ? and 27 of them have come since May 1. ... Beltre had to bail out of the on-deck circle in the eighth when Hamilton struck out against Downs and his bat went flying out of his hands.

Success Circuit Interviews John Meloche | Canada's Hosted Company

What a week it has been for MeloTel. With the introduction of a new logo, new Facebook page and most importantly, our brand new Residential Telephone Services, our company has been on quite a role. Of course, our president, John Meloche has never been one to rest on his laurels. Always thinking of the next step, John has been very busy as of late.

And it is evident that people are taking notice! Last week, John was interviewed by Michelle Baker of the Success Circuit blog. A website dedicated to recognizing ?normal people living their dreams?, Baker discovered that John is anything but normal! The interview revealed that MeloTel?s president is both an entrepreneur and a rapper ? and perhaps a little bit of everything else in between!

?I am highly motivated to seizing opportunities afforded to me and dedicating my time to flourishing opportunities,? said John, ?I started in the industry as a hobbyist and ultimately evolved into a very rewarding career of working over the Internet.? Since MeloTel?s inception in 2009, John has made evident that he is very passionate about his company and the services it provides to his clients.

There is no question that John enjoys his work. The personal touch that MeloTel adds to its services is one of the key ingredients that sets it apart from larger companies. Customers receive hands-on service from a company that actually cares about them. To communicate this, however, it takes great dedication. Obviously, running a smaller company means having to put more effort into living up to your commitments.

And how does a motivated business owner accomplish this? According to John, it all begins with simply listening to your customers. ?Something I learned years ago is you can get an education worth thousands of dollars just by asking questions and listening to what others have to say,? he explained, ?I attribute my success and diversity to consistently working harder than I am paid to do, while knowing eventually I will make more for what I do.?

John truly makes it sound easy, doesn?t he? But as Baker found out, John?s tireless efforts come at a personal price. The biggest one of all? His sleep! ?Right now my biggest struggle is finding the time for all my ideas,? admits John, ?Many of the moves I make in my businesses are moves that require much planning and diligence. I live by the motto: so many ideas, so little time. I am currently working on a way to be able to get less sleep at night while still feeling rested during the day.?

And what about that aforementioned rap career? By now, you may have already caught wind of ?888-MELOTEL?, John?s hip-hop single. Written and produced by Toronto rap veteran, Dan-e-o and recorded and mixed by T.J. Habibi of Secret Surburbia, the rap song ?started as a joke?, says John. However, John?s hip-hop debut became a ?very catchy jingle? that now serves a cool commercial for the company. Check it out:

So what is next for MeloTel? Perhaps, the question should be ?what isn?t next for MeloTel?? Not surprisingly, the ever-evolving John had this to say in response: ?Expand, expand and expand?I am hoping to make MeloTel a household name in Canada by providing the services people really want and focusing on value and excellent service.?

Coaching Model: SAS self-awareness, action, self-sufficiency ...

STAGE ONE: Self-Awareness

Coaching holds massive value in how it can help people change for the better. This first stage is of the greatest importance for anyone who wants to change their life. Without the awareness of how we interact with people, our relationships, our thought processes, values and beliefs, we cannot start the process of positive change.

At this stage the client is invited to describe themselves and their behaviour through both speaking with the coach and writing an initial description of themselves and their behaviour. This should ideally be completed in a direct Q&A format with questions specifically designed to direct the client into clarity around their behaviour, recurring thoughts, values and beliefs. For example, some questions may be: Do you have recurring thought during the day that cause you stress? What are they? How would you describe your interactions with your family, friends, co-workers, yourself? What are you great at? Describe the inner dialogues you have with yourself.

The client may, if appropriate, also be directed to other resources (books and online) to complete various ?get to know yourself? activities.

It is vital during this stage that the coach fosters an environment that is supportive, open and non-judgmental in order for the client to feel comfortable in describing themselves, even if these descriptions are negative.

At the end of this stage, the client is able to clearly see themselves as they are ? not who they want to be or how others may want them to be. Once some clarity has been gained here, they are ready for the stage of action.

STAGE TWO: Action

Action is absolutely crucial for change. When action is informed by healthy decisions, we change for the better.

At the beginning of this stage, the client will be asked to define what areas in their life are not working for them and why. This is somewhat of a continuation of the first stage of awareness. For example, the client may discover that they do not treat their partner as well as they would like to. The client is then asked to come up with an action step in order to change this aspect of their life. An example could be anything from talking to their partner about their realization to changing their language or behaviour in the home. However, the more specific the client can be in what exactly they can do to change their behaviour, the better. It should be emphasized that ?be nice to my husband all the time? would not be as useful as ?when my husband says something that irritates me, I will take 3 deep breaths and respond in a calm voice?. The client is encouraged to create specific change with specific action steps.

The Action stage will most likely take up the majority of the coaching sessions due to the emphasis placed on behaviour change, which can be extremely challenging. This stage will include talking about and dealing with mental and emotional blocks, motivation and self-sabotage. In addition to the usual support and enthusiasm offered by the coach, the client should be regularly and consistently acknowledged for the awareness they have developed from stage one and encouraged to reward themselves for any positive action taken as a result of this awareness. Doing so will help them to acknowledge their achievements and encourage them to keep moving, creating momentum and more action.

At the end of this stage, the client is able to make real change through their action steps and will increasingly be able to achieve more and more of their goals. Once the client is satisfied that they are consistently aware and can consistently create healthy action when needed, they approach the stage of self-sufficiency.

STAGE THREE: Self-Sufficiency

The ultimate goal of this coaching model is for the coach to be able to leave the client either temporarily or permanently with the knowledge that they can continue to find ways to support themselves without being coached.

Building on the awareness of stage one and the positive action of stage two, the client will now recognise what they need in order to function more effectively and joyfully in their life. Not only will they know how to go about this but during these final sessions, they will discuss with the coach their own ideas for self-improvement and how they are going to achieve it. This stage is the shortest of the three stages as once the client becomes more self-sufficient, the coaching may come to close, whether temporarily or permanently.

The key to this stage is in the client?s ability to use their inner resources (the tools they have learnt throughout the sessions) and outer resources (knowing what or who can help them if necessary). It should be made clear that this does not mean that the client cannot or should not seek help if they need it. It is about the client knowing when and how they can receive support or guidance and actually taking this step themselves. The client will actively and regularly engage in resourcefulness that supports their growth. They will be asked to identify specific resources they can utilize. Some examples could be a friend, books, classes, internet forums, teachers and so forth. The will also demonstrate that they are using these resources when they need them.

At this stage, the client may start to view the coaching process more and more as one of support and a sounding board rather than a process to lean on in order to make change. Once both the client and coach feel that a suitable level of self-sufficiency has been achieved, the coaching process can, if desired, be stopped altogether or paused for a period of time, depending on the preferences and agreements of the coach and client.

Subliminal Messages: Stimulating Exercise

Article Directory :: Self-Improvement/Motivation Articles

If maintaining an exercise regimen is a nightmare and a test of endurance, then it is time to resort to subliminal messages. Subliminal messages were pioneered to facilitate confronting the need to engage in physical activities for health reasons and to eliminate ennui.
The messages can be used alone or in conjunction with diverse health systems to gain maximum satisfaction from the regimen.
Generally, the model for subliminal messaging is founded on the assumption that repetition or recurrent targeting of the unconscious mind can change how someone thinks. These affirmative, repetitive messages are delivered in a manner that cannot be perceived by the conscious mind. Over time, positive conversions, like an enhanced belief in self or a more optimistic disposition, are manifested or noticed by others.

Anyone who wishes to adopt a physical fitness program can make use of a subliminal message to experience further encouragement and maintain momentum. With the help of the subliminal message, it becomes easier to stick to the goal (i.e losing weight) because it reinforces self-discipline and the determination to achieve a goal or objective. In the process, a change in attitude such as acting towards the objective (finding new ways to manage food consumption to reach normal weight) becomes apparent.

Moreover, it has been discovered that integrating a subliminal message with any form of physical exercise (like a sport, running, walking or going to a gym) will increase the urge to work out and obtain the fitness goal faster. Consequently, when the fitness goal is reached, satisfaction is derived from engaging in regular physical activities.

A subliminal message to enrich a person mentally and physically is incorporated in most exercise CDs on the market today. The ultimate effect of a subliminal CD or mp3 is to reprogram the conscious mind to accomplish its aspirations. To achieve a goal, anyone who is sincerely single-minded must do everything to make it a reality. Making the most of subliminal MP3 or programming speeds up the process, although the effects are not instantaneous. Essentially, it acts as a gentle, positive form of brainwashing and reinforces the subconscious mind in the direction of the goal. Hence, any incompatible preconceived notions or negative thinking processes will be reprogrammed. The result is a more affirmative consciousness dedicated to internal and external success. Anybody who would like to learn to play a musical instrument, build a new house, earn a college degree, study a new language, become an athlete or even the simplest exercise regimen with a plan of action and single-mindedness, they can achieve their goal.

Find out how subliminal messaging can assist you in finding harmony in your life, be more alert and develop a strong sense of self belief will help you in so many other areas of your life at Clear Away Stress Now.

ITV Player 2.0 brings live streams of the UK broadcaster's TV channels to iOS

Image

It's on Apple's iPhone and iPad, but this is the ITV Player, not the rumored iTV supposedly under development in Cupertino. After initially launching last summer (along with an Android version) offering streaming video on-demand, the UK channel's iOS app has been updated to version 2.0 to offer a live streaming feed of its two channels. Other than just ITV1 and ITV2 over WiFi or 3G, if there's a live event being broadcast that isn't on either, you'll still be able to tune in via the app. Other new features include AirPlay Mirroring, easier switching between content, improved location detection (to determine what channels are available) and Retina Display quality graphics on the iPad. Unfortunately, The Digital Lifestyle points out catch-up access is still unavailable over 3G, but those with access should grab the new app from iTunes.

Crystals found in magma chambers may help scientists predict volcanic eruptions

To learn more about volcanic activity in an effort to help predict it, researchers investigated the magma from within volcanoes. Crystals often grow within magma chambers, large crevices of searing hot fluid rock beneath volcanoes.

More than 500 million people live close to volcanoes that could erupt with little or no clear warning, causing widespread devastation and even global effects on climate, as in the case of the?1991 eruption of Mount Pinatubo. Although scientists keep an eye on many of the world's volcanoes for ground movements, gas emissions and other signs of unrest, volcanologists still face challenges directly linking surface activity with volcanic plumbing changes deep underground.

To learn more about volcanic activity in an effort to help predict it, researchers investigated the magma from within volcanoes. Crystals often grow within magma chambers, large crevices of searing hot fluid rock beneath volcanoes.

"Crystals can be thought of like a book," said researcher Kate Saunders, a volcanologist at the University of Bristol in England. "If we understand how to read them, they contain vital information on formation of the magma." Changes in magma behavior recorded in crystals might in turn shed light on volcanic activity. [World's 5 Most Active Volcanoes]

Crystal growth

Crystals within magma often grow in concentric zones. This makes them like tree rings ? thin ones reflect times of little growth, while thick ones represent much growth. Each zone also has a subtly distinct chemical makeup that mirrors changes in physical conditions within magma chambers, thus giving clues on internal volcanic activity.

Saunders and her colleagues analyzed orthopyroxene crystals within volcanic rocks taken from nine different eruptions at Mount St. Helens in Washington state, from 1980 to 1986. The volcano is best known for its?spectacular eruption in 1980.

The researchers discovered the rims of the crystals typically grew within 12 months of each eruption. Peaks in crystal growth were linked with?increased earthquake activity?and flow of sulfur dioxide gas at the volcano.

"Such a correlation between crystal growth and volcanic seismicity has been long anticipated, but to see such clear evidence of this relationship is remarkable," Saunders told OurAmazingPlanet.

Volcano vital signs

Although this work cannot lead scientists to predict the time and day of an eruption, "the more we understand the internal workings of a volcano, the better idea we have," Saunders said. "You wouldn't ask a doctor to predict the exact time of someone's death. However, by monitoring a patient's vital signs, they are able to provide a much more thorough diagnosis.

"The same is also true with volcanoes. The more we know about the processes that occur beneath them and the time scales over which these occur, the better we can anticipate their behavior and?timing of future eruptions."

The researchers hope to examine other volcanoes and compare their results with other volcano-monitoring techniques.

The best plan, Saunders said, may be to collect rocks from eruptions "50 years, 100 years, 1 million years ago and interrogate these samples to investigate whether the volcano is behaving in a similar predicable manner and whether we can use this knowledge to help us to watch for similar signs in the monitoring record."

Saunders and her colleagues detailed their findings in the May 25 issue of the journal Science.
